What is a Job Description? – What actually is it used for? With a real life example below…
A job description is a list of general tasks and responsibilities of the person taking on that role, a job description will give a basic overview of what is expected day to day from the employee and can be used as a reference to see what type of skills and experience maybe necessary to take on that particular role.
Here is an example of a job description for a Service Desk Analyst vacancy, which is being advertised by an IT outsourcing company (note: we have removed the names and contact details of the company and the recruiter):
Job Description: Help Desk Analyst with high level fix rate and excellent customer service skills required to join technical services company providing managed services for city based investment banking clients. This is an excellent opportunity to progress your career within a prestigious corporate, fast paced and dynamic environment. A sound knowledge of the Microsoft environment is required including a track record of high level fix rates (70 %+). Knowledge of handheld devices and experience of remote tools is also desirable. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a pressurised and focused environment are prerequisite.
